‘Tis the season to be jolly?

Read: Luke 10:38-42

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

It can be said that Christmas is the biggest and grandest festive season in the Philippines. Lights, music and decorations start building up by September. Everyone is so busy coordinating, preparing and attending parties. Hence, being out of the country during this time of the year makes one miss home more.

Christmas is fun but it is also exhausting. For all the parties to organize, the gifts to buy and wrap, the food to cook, the place to clean, etc, etc…I found myself on my bed, trying to make up all my lost sleep. Oh yeah! Adulting is hard at its finest. However, amidst all these, aren’t we missing the One thing that matters most?

CHRISTmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Whilst we know it, we sometimes (or most of the time) forget it. Like Martha, we are so distracted doing the logistics that we overlook that this is also the time to sit and be reminded to be thankful that Christ came to this world to seek and save the lost, which is us!

Instead of making ourselves worry and upset ourselves on many things this season, may we choose the One that matters most, our personal time with Jesus Christ. While these things can still be done, may Christ be the overall Star of all your celebrations. Because more than 2000 years ago, He came for you and me so that we may have a life with the Father that will last a lifetime.

Jesus, always remind us that You are the reason of this season. May our Christmas be spent in honouring You and sharing Your love to those who doesn’t know You yet. Amen.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. – Matthew 1:21 (NIV)
